Differences between DIN 6915 and EN 14399-4

 

EN14399-4 Heavy Hex Nuts

First, standard nature and coverage differ drastically. DIN 6915 only specifies standalone nuts as a single-component German standard referencing old DIN 18800 steelwork rules. EN 14399-4 is a harmonized European assembly standard, governing matched bolt-nut-washer sets under the full EN 14399 series, complying with Eurocode 3 and mandatory CE marking for EU construction.

Second, normative frameworks vary. DIN 6915 lacks unified preload testing protocols; EN 14399-4 enforces assembly-wide preload verification via EN 14399-2, with strict batch marking and traceability requirements absent from DIN 6915.

Third, validity and regional application: DIN 6915 is obsolete for new EU projects and only accepted for legacy German structures, while EN 14399-4 is legally mandatory across all European member states. Minor dimensional refinements exist in EN 14399-4 to unify cross-country tolerances, whereas DIN 6915 retains original German manufacturing tolerances.
