EN 14399-4 defines heavy HV structural nuts exclusively matched with 10.9-grade high-strength bolts for preloaded friction-type steel joints, covering thread sizes M12 to M36 with a mandatory property class 10, fully aligned with Eurocode 3 steel structure design rules. Distinct from ordinary hex nuts, they adopt a heavy-duty geometric design: the nut height reaches approximately 0.8 times the nominal thread diameter, paired with an enlarged width across flats and wider bearing surface. This layout disperses huge pre-tightening pressure evenly, avoids local yielding of steel substrates, and significantly boosts anti-fatigue performance under cyclic dynamic loads such as vehicle vibration and wind oscillation.
