Product Introduction
7/16-14 UNC heavy hex nut, ASTM A194 Grade 2H, formed from 45K medium-carbon cold-heading wire, quenched and tempered, then coated with an eco-type Dacromet zinc-aluminum flake finish. Dimensions follow ASME B18.2.2 heavy-hex geometry: 3/4 in (19.0 mm) across flats and about 27/64 in (10.7 mm) thick, with internal 7/16-14 UNC threads held to class 2B. The grade is part of the A194 pressure-bolting family covering 1/4 in to 4 in; heavy-hex nuts carry a 175 ksi proof-load stress and this size range is controlled to roughly 248–327 HB (HRC 24–35). The specified mate is an A193 B7 stud-do not pair it with A320 L7 hardware, which demands a different nut grade. The micron-thin flake film preserves the 2B fit without post-coating retapping, unlike 55 µm hot-dip galvanizing, and a sealed surface gives a predictable lubricated friction coefficient for torque-controlled assembly.
Functions and Purposes
This size is the step between instrument hardware and full flange bolting: mid-size valve bodies, actuator adapters, compressor inspection covers, lubrication consoles, pump bearing housings and process-machine access doors where 3/8 patterns lack clamp margin but 1/2 would overhang thin flanges. The wider heavy-hex flats carry wrench loads at repeated service intervals without rounding, and the 14 TPI coarse pitch threads quickly onto cut or rolled studs in the field. Dacromet fits indoor industrial and refinery utility environments; specify a duplex system for splash, salt or chemical exposure. A common 3/4 in socket and standard torque charts cover installation, recalibration and outage rework.
