Functions and Purposes
The coarse 1.75 mm pitch gives fast assembly, high tolerance to dirt and handling damage, better fatigue life from a larger root radius, and stable preload after repeated use.
Proof load stress is 1200 MPa.
35CrMoA provides deep hardenability and toughness to handle impact and vibration - a step up from the carbon steels used in class 8 nuts.
The 55 µm zinc layer delivers long-term outdoor corrosion protection suited to C3-C4 environments (industrial, coastal).
Because of the high strength, dehydrogenation after galvanizing is mandatory to avoid hydrogen embrittlement.
Threads are tapped after coating, typically to 6AZ or 6AX tolerance, ensuring fit with hot-dip galvanized bolts. Width across flats is 18 mm, maximum height 10.8 mm.
The nut pairs with class 12.9 bolts (10.9 can be used after design verification). While the old DIN 934 coarse series has been replaced by ISO 4032, the DIN 934 designation is still commonly referenced.
Typical applications include structural steelwork joints, wind turbine tower internals and cable tray brackets, crusher frames and excavator superstructures, railway bogie attachments, ship outfitting and port machinery, and outdoor agricultural equipment.
