American left-hand thread nuts comply with the ANSI/ASME Unified Thread Standard for American systems, available in UNC coarse and UNF fine thread variants. Their thread helix direction is opposite to standard right-hand threads, requiring counterclockwise tightening and clockwise loosening. With SAE strength grades of 2/5/8, these nuts are used with left-hand American bolts or shafts. They primarily address three key challenges: preventing self-loosening in rotating equipment, avoiding incorrect assembly, and enabling bidirectional adjustment.

Forces generated by normal rotation of the equipment act as a loosening torque on right-hand thread nuts and a locking torque on left-hand thread nuts. Physical differentiation via thread direction prevents workers from mistakenly connecting gas pipes to oxidizing agent pipes, eliminating explosion hazards from reversed connections. 4. Bidirectional synchronous adjustment mechanism, simplifying mechanical structure

Paired positive and reverse threads (one end left-hand, one end right-hand) form tensioners/regulating lead screws. When rotating the screw, both ends of the nut move closer together or separate simultaneously, completing tensioning, distance adjustment, and centering in one step.
