5/16-24 UNF heavy hex nut, ASTM A194 Grade 2H, cold forged from 45K medium-carbon wire, quenched and tempered, then finished with an eco-grade Dacromet zinc-aluminum flake coat. Per ASME B18.2.2 heavy-hex-dimensions are set by nominal diameter, so they match the coarse series: 9/16 in (14.3 mm) across flats, about 19/64 in (7.5 mm) thick; internal 5/16-24 UNF threads, class 2B. The A194 family spans 1/4 in to 4 in across UNC, UNF and 8UN; heavy-hex 2H is rated at 175 ksi proof-load stress with hardness near 248–327 HB (HRC 24–35). The 24 TPI pitch raises stud tensile stress area from 0.0524 to 0.0580 in²-about ten percent more bolt strength where the diameter cannot grow. The mating member is an A193 B7 stud; A320 L7 pairs elsewhere.

Fine pitch trades assembly speed for resolution-each turn advances barely a millimeter-so set clearances precisely and expect to protect threads with caps or guards until the moment of assembly. Cleanliness rules apply: chips and grit that a coarse thread would shrug off can score these flanks. Use the coated, lubricated surface with calibrated low-speed torque and document the value for the next outage. Dacromet covers indoor process air; chemical splash or marine fog calls for a duplex system. A 9/16 in socket handles it.
