Product Introduction
In a hydroelectric turbine, the runner hub carries the blades and must be clamped to the shaft with a precise axial thrust. The M30 × 2 fine hex nut, strength grade 12, from 35CrMoA through-hardened steel, unplated, performs this duty. The 2 mm pitch is much finer than the coarse 3.5 mm thread, so a single turn moves the nut only 2 mm.
Functions and Purposes
This allows the assembly crew to stretch the shaft by a measured amount and lock the runner hub without overshooting. No electroplating is used because zinc or phosphate would alter friction at the nut face, making the torque-clamp force relationship unpredictable and causing uneven loading. It also eliminates hydrogen-induced cracking risk in a fastener that works under high static stress. Spanner opening 46 mm, overall thickness about 23 mm. Guaranteed minimum proof stress 1200 N/mm², 6H class of fit. The nut is installed in a grease-filled recess inside the turbine hub, protected from water. Compared with the coarse M30, this fine nut requires better thread cleanliness and more careful handling, but it provides the repeatable preload needed to prevent runner hub fatigue and keep the turbine balanced over decades of service.
