Product Introduction
A tunnel boring machine's cutterhead is driven through a large slewing bearing. The M27 × 2 fine hex nut, strength grade 12, from 35CrMoA through-hardened steel, unplated, secures the bearing inner ring to the drive shaft.
Functions and Purposes
The 2 mm pitch, finer than the coarse 3 mm thread, produces a lower lead angle, so the nut is much less likely to rotate loose under the severe torsional oscillation and rock impact encountered during excavation. Because no electroplating is applied, there is no risk of hydrogen-induced cracking in this large, heavily loaded fastener, and the friction coefficient at the seating face remains stable, making torque-controlled tightening reliable. Spanner opening 41 mm, overall thickness about 21 mm. Guaranteed minimum proof stress 1200 N/mm², 6H class of fit. The nut operates inside an oil-lubricated gearbox, so the lubricant film handles rust prevention. It is not designed for exposed conditions. Compared with the M27 coarse nut, the fine version requires scrupulous thread cleanliness before assembly, but it distributes load over more engaged turns and delivers a smoother torque versus clamp force relationship. In tunnel boring, where the cutterhead is difficult to access, that repeatability and resistance to loosening are decisive.
