3/8-16 UNC heavy hex nut to ASTM A194 Grade 2H, forged from quenched-and-tempered 45K medium-carbon cold-heading steel and sealed with an eco-type zinc-aluminum flake Dacromet coat. The envelope follows ASME B18.2.2 heavy-hex geometry: 11/16 in (17.5 mm) across flats and about 23/64 in (9.1 mm) thick, with internal 3/8-16 UNC threads held to class 2B. Grade 2H covers inch sizes 1/4 through 4 and is a pressure-bolting grade: for the heavy-hex series the proof-load stress is 175 ksi, and core hardness at this diameter sits near 248–327 HB (HRC 24–35). It is designed to pair with A193 B7 studs; although 175 ksi numerically resembles a 1200 MPa metric figure, the ISO class 12 system is not a valid substitute. Because the flake film is only microns thick, the 2B thread passes standard plug gauges after coating-no oversize retapping as with 55 µm hot-dip galvanizing-and a top-sealed surface keeps friction stable for hydraulic, pneumatic or hand torque.

 

As the largest of this trio, it serves compact yet load-critical bolting: valve bonnets and yokes, pump and compressor covers, drilling-manifold fittings, gauge adapters, turbine auxiliary brackets and machine inspection doors. The extra wrenching height and wider flats of the heavy pattern spread bearing pressure and resist corner rounding during repeated retorque. Specify it where preload control and thermal cycling matter more than sheer fastener count, and treat Dacromet as an industrial-atmosphere coating: for splash zones, de-icing salts or marine fog, move to a duplex system rather than assuming hot-dip equivalence. A standard 11/16 in socket covers assembly and outage rework.
