Production Process of Carbon Steel Flange Nuts
The production of ASME B18.2.2 hex flange nuts starts with raw material inspection. Carbon or alloy steel bars are checked for chemical composition and mechanical properties to meet standard requirements. Next comes hot or cold forging. Cold forging is commonly used for small sizes, forming the hex body and integrated flange in one press, which delivers dense metal grain and high strength. Larger nuts adopt hot forging to reduce forming resistance.
After forging, blanks go through trimming to remove flash. Then thread tapping is performed precisely to comply with ASME thread tolerances. Heat treatment follows for high-strength grades, including quenching and tempering to achieve specified hardness and toughness. Surface treatment such as zinc plating, black oxide or PTFE coating is applied to resist corrosion.
Final inspection covers dimension check, thread gauge test, hardness test and visual defect screening. Qualified nuts are cleaned and packaged. Strict process control ensures the flange nuts meet ASME B18.2.2 dimensional, mechanical and surface requirements for heavy-duty connections.
