parameter
DIN928 is a dedicated standard for square weld nuts under the German standard system. The product features a square structure design to achieve a larger welding area and is fixed on the workpiece surface by welding. It is suitable for thin-walled or special structural parts that cannot be directly tapped, providing a firm and anti-loosening fastening solution for the industrial field. The following is a detailed explanation from the dimensions of production standards, processes, performance, applications, etc.:

Production Standards and Version Evolution
Core Standards and Current Version
• Main Standard: DIN 928 (the latest current version is DIN 928:2013-12), which replaces the previous DIN 928:2000-01 and the 2012 draft version (DIN 928 E:2012).
• Key Technical Coverage: The standard clearly specifies the structural form (square body with welding boss), dimensional parameters (thread specification, side length, height, etc.), material requirements, tolerance range (product grade A) and inspection rules of square weld nuts, providing a unified basis for design and production.
• Supporting Referenced Standards:
◦ Materials and Mechanical Properties: DIN EN ISO 898-2 (for steel), DIN 13-1/5/6 (mechanical performance testing)
◦ Thread Requirements: DIN ISO 8992 (thread tolerance 6G), DIN ISO 965-1 (thread profile)
◦ Surface Treatment: DIN EN ISO 4759-1, DIN 267-2
◦ Acceptance and Packaging: DIN EN ISO 3269
Performance Grades and Mechanical Properties
DIN928 square weld nuts are divided into two major series: carbon steel and stainless steel according to materials, corresponding to different performance grades to meet different strength requirements:

Typical Mechanical Performance Indicators
The key performances must comply with DIN EN ISO 898-2 and DIN 13 series standards.
Supplementary Notes: After welding, the integrity of the thread must be ensured without weld slag blockage; the tensile strength of the welded joint shall not be less than 80% of the base material strength.
Production Process and Quality Control
Core Production Process Material Selection:
• Carbon steel: Low-carbon steel (such as SWRCH18A, C≤0.25%) is selected to ensure weldability;
• Stainless steel: 304 (A2) and 316 (A4) are selected, and the carbon content must be controlled to avoid intergranular corrosion;
• The content of non-metallic impurities (S, P) must be ≤0.035% to prevent welding cracks. Forming Processing:
• Cold heading forming: For small and medium-sized specifications (M4-M12), the cold heading process is adopted to press the square body and welding boss, ensuring the continuity of metal flow lines and improving strength;
• Hot forging forming: For large-sized specifications (M14-M16), hot forging is adopted, with a heating temperature of 800-1000℃ to avoid residual oxide scale after forging.
Thread Processing:
• Tapping: High-precision taps are used to process 6G tolerance threads, which must pass the thread go-no-go gauge (DIN ISO 1502) test;
• Deburring: The thread mouth and welding surface need to be chamfered (0.5×45°) to prevent stress concentration during welding.
Surface Treatment:
• Carbon steel: Zinc plating with colored passivation (salt spray test ≥48h), dacromet (stronger corrosion resistance), black oxide (suitable for indoor dry environments);
• Stainless steel: Natural color (passivation treatment), nickel plating (improving conductivity and decorativeness);
• Note: Surface treatment should avoid covering the welding surface, otherwise it will affect the welding strength (for example, the zinc coating in the welding area must be removed before welding).
Welding Process Adaptation:
• Capacitor discharge welding is recommended, with a welding current of 500-2000A and a welding time of 0.01-0.1s to ensure complete fusion of the welding boss without false welding.
Safety Tips
• Welding operations must comply with the GB 9448 welding safety standard, and protective glasses and insulating gloves should be worn;
• Welding process verification must be carried out before batch use to ensure the joint strength meets the design requirements.
