This heavy hex nut is cold forged from 45K medium-carbon wire, quenched and tempered, then finished with a RoHS-oriented Dacromet zinc-aluminum flake system. Dimensions follow the ASME B18.2.2 heavy-hex series: 1-7/16 in (36.5 mm) across flats, roughly 55/64 in (21.8 mm) high, with 7/8-9 UNC internal threads to class 2B. A194 spans 1/4 in through 4 in, and heavy-hex Grade 2H carries a 175 ksi proof-load stress with core hardness near 248–327 HB (HRC 24–35) at this size. The mating member is an A193 B7 stud; low-temperature L7 hardware calls for a different nut grade. Coating thickness remains in the micron range, so 2B threads accept standard gauges without retapping, while the cured film supports repeatable lubricated tensioning across larger joint sets.

 

This size moves into rotating-equipment territory: compressor case splits and end covers, turbine auxiliary casings, large pump barrel sections, medium-pressure valve bodies, gearbox torque arms and machine bases where cyclic loads and thermal growth reward generous preload. It also appears on higher-class small flanges where the bolt circle cannot accept more fasteners. The 9 TPI coarse pitch is rugged and fast-running, tolerant of field-cut threads, though alignment and thread runout deserve attention on long studs. At this scale, washer selection and bearing-face flatness start to influence load distribution. Dacromet serves utility and process-indoor atmospheres; marine splash, chemical exposure or de-icing salts call for a duplex topcoat and documented friction values. Assembly and hot retorque use a standard 1-7/16 in drive.
