What Is A Bolt?
Dec 01, 2025
Bolt: A mechanical part, a cylindrical threaded fastener fitted with a nut. It is a type of fastener consisting of a head and a threaded shank (a cylinder with external threads), used to fasten two parts with through holes. This type of connection is called a bolted connection. Since the two parts can be separated by unscrewing the nut, a bolted connection is a detachable connection.
The fastener body consists of a head and a threaded shank. The shank is cylindrical and has external threads, and it passes through the through hole of the connected parts before being screwed onto the nut. Anchors, as a derivative of bolts, are commonly used for anchoring connections between steel structures and concrete foundations to enhance structural stability.
