What Materials Are Bolts And Nuts Typically Made Of?

Carbon Steel
Carbon steel is one of the most widely used materials for manufacturing bolts and nuts. Due to its high strength, wear resistance, ease of machining, and low price, carbon steel bolts and nuts are widely used in various mechanical equipment and structures. However, carbon steel is prone to rust and corrosion.

Alloy Steel
Alloy steel is made by adding other elements to carbon steel. These elements can be alloys of chromium, cobalt, cobalt-nickel, etc. Due to its high strength, strong corrosion resistance, and good heat resistance, alloy steel bolts and nuts are often used in mechanical engineering under high temperature and high pressure environments. At the same time, the manufacturing cost of alloy steel bolts and nuts is lower than that of stainless steel bolts and nuts.

Stainless Steel
Due to its strong corrosion resistance, stainless steel bolts and nuts are widely used in marine engineering, food processing equipment, pharmaceutical equipment, and other fields. Stainless steel bolts and nuts can effectively resist water corrosion and rust, and the material is relatively easy to obtain. However, stainless steel bolts and nuts are more expensive.
