How to choose washers
Jan 15, 2026
Size Selection: Washers must be selected with the same diameter as both the bearing and the shaft to ensure consistency. When selecting the appropriate size washer, the bearing diameter and shaft diameter need to be measured, and a matching washer should be chosen.
Material Selection: Common materials for washers include copper, steel, and plastic. Harder materials (such as steel) help prevent washer deformation and cracking; softer materials (such as copper and plastic) cause less wear on the shaft. The appropriate material should be selected based on the different operating environments and performance requirements.
Thickness Selection: The thickness of the washer must be sufficient to withstand the forces between the two bearings and prevent cracking due to axial movement. Washers that are too thick or too large will leave gaps between the bearing and the shaft, affecting the normal operation of the bearing system. Therefore, the appropriate washer thickness should be selected based on the specific dimensions of the bearing and the application.
